The boat has been identified
Police have confirmed a wreck found on the seafloor of the Picton Harbour is the Black Prince.
Tasman police district communications manager Barbara Dunn said police were satisfied that a wreck discovered during a Defence Force training exercise at the end of October was the Black Prince.
The boat was previously named the Jean and operated as a fishing boat before it was converted into a pleasure craft and renamed the Black Prince in the 1980s.
Dunn said police had not managed to track down the last owner of the boat, but information from the public meant they were satisfied that the wreck was The Black Prince.
Police had no further interest in the wreck, she said.
