im not sure what
the abuse stats were like
prior to colonisation
maori were particularly reluctant
keepers of records
never wrote anything down
but
if indeed colonisation
were the the cause of it
then surely the huge amounts of money
flowing into the coffers
(money from the evil colonisers)
perhaps maori could make some effort
other than fresh excuses
to do something about it

to be honest
i dont think it was/is caused
by colonisation
otherwise
wouldnt the abuse be just
as prevalent
in other colonised cultures?

the moroccans
(colonised by the French)
dont have a problem
nor do the native americans
(they have many many problems
but not child abuse)
the Hispanics in South America
were colonised brutally
by the spanish
and the portuguese
again
no child abuse problems

so while colonisation
is a handy blame shift
and an excellent way to duck away
from accepting the responsibility
and remedying the problem
it is just another excuse
and a pretty weak one at that

no one cares that maori
were colonised
its water under the bridge
what people care about
is stopping the abuse
and that isnt going to happen
if whitey ups sticks
and buggers off back
to britain
colonisation cannot be undone
and two hundred years later
should not be an
excuse
for shit behaviour
that just doesnt wash with me
