Incredible huh Especially a fully formed chrysalis popping out from a caterpillar skin
Beautiful creatures
We have a tree nearby that monarchs winter over in, swarms of them

Reminds me of school. Raising them in fish tanks and watching them morph into butterflies.
I hardly see monachs these days. I read planting swan plants encourages them into the garden.

Those paper wasps suck the guts out of the caterpillars. Another great fuck up that was introduced, to kill the white butterfly caterpillar and it is destroying all caterpillars.

The problem with swan plants is they encourage mites and aphids into your garden system,...so most "serious" gardeners hate swan plants.

Thanks for the info ulg. Dave wouldn't allow any plant that attracts butterflies no matter how beautiful they look. His vege garden is king.

Kids loved watching the process of them on our Swan plant.
We gave Swan plants to family members for Christmas they all said thats the best gifts they ever had.

Yep they are very cool However when we've had them, we've attracted so many butterflies that they always strip the poor plants. Have had to do mad dashes round garden centres to replace them
You can feed them pumpkin but it can make the butterflies quite deformed

Datura attracts them like crazy too.... but dont plant any if you have teenagers in the neighbourhood..... another round of experimenters here in Wanga's this weekend... throwing up and blind for a couple of hours at the A&E.

Ah yes, I know about datura. It's a beautiful flower, enormous and pearlescent. We used to take them to school for our teachers.
The girl over the road was a bit of a druggie. She availed herself of some to brew up, and was found by her parents shut in the coal bin, talking to imaginary flowers.

Geez Daytura. My freind was given some D juice and took her clothes off insisting she needed to was and hang them out. We just let her run its course. Horrible stuff. Wonder what happens to butterflies when they munch down on it.
