A Martinborough fish and chip shop is defying The Godfather's maker, with Paramount Pictures film studio demanding they stop using a Brando-like fish for branding. Movie giant Paramount Pictures are not happy with the humble Jellicoe St fish and chip shop's branding which parodies the hit movie The Godfather. The 1972 American crime film stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a fictional New York crime family. As part of its signage The Codfather Takeaways have adopted Brando's Don Corleone character in the style of a fish. Paramount, owners of the trademark The Godfather, are not impressed and through lawyers have instructed them to stop. But Danielle Stuart, co-owner of The Codfather, reckons Paramount is being mean spirited and both the name and insignia are staying.
I dont think they have a leg to stand on quite honestly.... they are not the copyright holder of the book, the name on the sign is in the same style as the cover of the original book.... so they cant claim that is theirs, they dont own the copyright on that... only on works they have produced.
The picture of a cod in a tux... doesnt copy any of their works either... Marlon Brando was not a fish...although, in his later years...he did look like one.
