Wild weather has battered the North Island, flooding homes in Taranaki, uprooting trees and downing power lines from Waikato to Northland - and more rain is to come.
Homes in the Taranaki town of Opunake were flooded and all schools and the public library had closed for the day after heavy downpours.

More heavy rain was expected across the central and northern parts of the North Island on Thursday.
The front moving over the country was expected to intensify as it moved east.
Heavy rainfall was expected in the eastern Bay of Plenty where a further 110mm of rain was predicted to fall on Thursday afternoon.
Between 50mm and 80mm of rain was expected to fall during a short time in the western Bay of Plenty and central North Island overnight Thursday.
According to MetService, 70-90mm of rain was due to fall about Mt Taranaki between 9pm Wednesday and 10am Thursday and 50-60mm elsewhere in the region.
Severe weather warnings remained in place for the northern and central North Island.
