given the rate of change
in the world today
and the exponential rise in
technology
is it vain to think
that we as a planet are
on the cusp of a global
paradigm shift in our ethos?
did the greeks think
the same thing?
did they think they had advanced
as a civilisation to a point where further change
was not likely
we knew it all?
did the modern industrial empire
of britain think the same?
that their technology was the last word
and mans potential had been reached?
was improvement incomprehensible to all
but a few?
ol weasel is not querying our self importance
as a the most learned generation in our human history
he is querying
where to from here?
will the human condition
allow us to progress
to another level existence
beyond the one we have created thus far?
or
will pride greed avarice and self interest
remain intact enough to allow the race to evolve that far?
what prompts this line of thought
in weasels wondering walnut
is the curve
the exponential bit
we really are on the edge of something
if we look at humanities progress
it took 5000 years to learn to speak
10,000 years to learn to sail
15,000 years to fuse metals
yet it has taken
100 years
to electrify the planet
50 years to decode wireless transmission
20 years to build a computer
the growth curve must be almost vertical at this point
perhaps a visual
would help to clarify things?
