insert quote here Rates rises could be up to 40 per cent for some households after the council last month paved the way for residential rises of 9.9 per cent. That's made up of a 4.2 per cent average general rates increase plus an annual transport levy of $113 as well as averaged valuation increases.
insert quote here The council also estimates 11.3 per cent, or around 51,000 ratepayers, will receive a rates decrease, 79.5 per cent are set for an increase under $500 and 7.2 per cent will pay between $500 and $1000 more. They are saying on facebook that the average rates rise of 4-8% in rich suburbs like Takapuna and Remuera, and 16-20% in poorer suburbs like Glenfield and Beach Haven.
Why do councils or why are councils allowed to do that? They did it here in Kawerau. The posher streets got a decrease.

If everyone receives the same services, why are there different Rates for different areas? That seems a bit odd to me.

You would think that, and I have no idea why they price like that. But they do. In saying that we as ratepayers need to all get together and stop paying our rates. It wont happen but is a fabulous idea I reckon. Imagine if we did all band together like that. Bye bye bank fees, high milk prices and everything else we chose to protest and boycott. Yeah!

High power charges, band together and boycott. High phone charges the same. Power to the people. Oh if only!

Pig headed Len Brown. (mayor of Auckland City)
Mayor Len Brown has been snapped parking across a cycle lane on a busy Auckland road - and his flippant apology on social media has created outrage.
Mr Brown was photographed by a Herald reader being interviewed on Carlton Gore Rd this morning.
The car he travelled to the interview in is parked across a cycle lane.
It is an electric car with Auckland Council branding and is next to a recharge station.
Photos clearly show the car was blocking most of a bike lane.
The Herald asked Mr Brown for an explanation and he waited an hour before responding, posting an "apology" on Twitter and Facebook.
"Out test driving one of our new EVs and refilling at a charging stations. Unable to park without impinging... #SorryCyclists," the post read.

Empire building and excess have been going on for far too long. I would love to stop paying my rates in protest, but the problem is , if you have a mortgage, the council reaches into your bank and takes it straight from the mortgage, then you have to pay the bank.... slimy laws that interfere with your democratic right to protest......

I actually did it in protest to my horizons rates... and knew that the mortgage rules allowed these payments to be made from the mortgage account... so approached the bank to tell them I was not paying them in protest, but the horizons were able to take the rates from there anyway...

Any sort of rates revolt needs the masses to be involved, one Joe Citizen will do nothing. Election and plenty of publicity is the only way to go. With holding rates really is just delaying the the out come. You just can't beat the bastards and that is one of the biggest problems cos these arseholes know this. I would not mind paying if there was not so much squandering on unnecessary crap. Since Auckland Council has taken over the spending in my area is ridiculous. Clevedon Road is a very long road with houses both sides. They have planted flowering cherries or peach trees the full length with very expensive looking steel cages around the trunk of each tree. The cages must have cost $150 - 200 each. I have no problem with this, if the city can afford it without ripping off the ratepayers by increasing the rates. The whole set up is a fucking abortion. The stupid salaries is another problem, then these cunts decide to have a piss up at our expense cos they got the vote to increase the rates. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound. I had better go to bed cos I will be so worked up I won't sleep.

I did some googling for my DIL, a company (those tv advert sales) The advert company had taken out a payment even though she told them to cancel her makeup subscription. They told her that the payments will continue to be taken out. Long story short we found out she could go to her bank and tell them to stop direct debit payments. The bank said they couldn't. Then after googling we found out that a bank does not have authority over your bank account and what ever you tell the bank to do, by law they have to follow your instructions. I am guessing that would work the same with any council payments also.

What really hurt me was Down Trough Brown was getting his leg over at the expense of the ratepayers while I was getting sweet FA.

Our horizons rates have increased over 1000% in the last ten years.... they have built an empire, employing more and more people, bought a huge fleet of vehicles, and insert themselves into things like road safety campaigns which are already undertaken by the government. 50% of our horizons rates were spent on flood control..... which all washed away in the last flood....so now we will probably spend more over the next ten years, just to see it washed away in the next one And the district council, under Micheal Laws, increased borrowing from 27 Million, to over 100 Million...and every single thing he spent the money on, now needs rebuilt, as he refused to listen to expert advice, and built lemons

the council are higher than god when it comes to extracting rates
what is insane is that they assume the rates using current market prices instead of a median price range over a ten year period to allow for bubbles and busts
right now some aucklanders are paying the price of someone elses profit

If it isnt, then the bank must accept all applications from these type of creditors to have the amount paid from the mortgage account.
