Celebrity chef Jo Seagar's North Canterbury cafe and cook school is in liquidation. Seagars at Oxford closed Friday. A sign on the door read: " Winslow Trading Company Ltd, operator of Seagar Cafe, Cook School, Kitchen Store and B&B has been placed in liquidation." Jo Seagar and her husband, Ross, are joint directors of Winslow Trading Company Ltd. "Like many small businesses in Canterbury we have struggled to survive post-earthquakes. We would like to thank people for their wonderful support. It's been a great 10 years and we have made some wonderful lifelong friends," Seagar said on Sunday. www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/70166057/celebrity-chef-jo-seagars-cafe-and-cook-school-in-liquidation

Earthquake probably didn't help, but I think she diversified too much. She did food tours to Italy and stuff didn't she??
Maybe a champagne diet on a beer budget?

Then there is probably more going on than has been released to the press. If it is only unpaid Tax, then yeah they should be able to sort some form of repayment.

i saw that tv interview a huge tax bill but it doesnt really matter who is owed because clearly the local vendors and suppliers got paid first the business is still in arrears
imo she and her husband made a wise choice to call in liquidators if you work your ass off and still end up in the hole then you are wasting time
sometimes its better to cut your losses before it completely consumes everything most people dont recognise this until they lose their house and savings
