Now the Govt has passed Law that all Govt, Social, etc rentals will need to be insulated by 2019
We rent a MOJ house its not insulated but that has never been a issue for us.
MOJ wanted to put a heat pump in we said not to bother as we would never use it.
Plus what did they expect it to heat.

Do the government still have subsidies for insulation? Yeah they do but I think you have to have 1 child under 15 or a person over 65 living in the home to qualify

Could have the opposite effect and reduce rents... people that have rentals, and are just surviving, may not have the capital to insulate their one or two rentals... and may decide to sell on... more houses on the market leads to lower house prices... and lower house prices lead to lower rents...... I think I will get stoned now

Yip lol. It cost around $8,000 to insulate the average NZ Home. That's a lot of money to come up with. A lot of landlords got their homes kitted out using their tenants community services cards. Even though landlords were supposed to make a contribution towards the price of insulation, they weren't charged. The insulation companies were more interested in getting work.
