With the aftermath over the weekend up in Kaipara should it become compulsory for all onboard to wear lifejackets? Some of the victims were to large as in bodymass to fit the life jackets that were available R I P to those who lost their lives in this tragedy.

I would never go out on the water without one so it should be personal responsibility but we all know that this doesn't always happen. Some people think they are bullet proof. In the case of Kaipara, there is no way they should have crossed that Bar in those conditions, never mind without life jackets.

Was having this conversation with the Mr and his mates over a few drinks last night. They reckon its hard to fish in lifejackets which I do understand to a degree but these guys weren't fishing at the time, they were on their way back. The skipper should have demanded they wear their lifejackets crossing that bar.
