The first building to be demolished in Wellington after the earthquake is beginning to come down today.

The demolition of the quake-damaged building at 61 Molesworth St has begun, with others around the Wellington region also set to be torn down.

The nine-storey building in central Wellington was condemned following the November 14 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Heavy machinery, including a long-reach digger, were moved in and started the demolition on Monday morning.

This building is across the road from my old office when I was with the ministry of Ed.

Have noticed the effect the EQ has had on Wellington, I live in a small commuter town & noticed
since the EQ there is now plenty of parking at our local rail station as there is not as many
cars parked, Alot of the commuters I have spoken to say they'er working remotely until their
buildings are declared safe or relocated.

The next big one Wellington would shut down me thinks
