What you need to know
Significant winds with “damaging gusts” are expected right across the South Island and the southern half of the North Island on Sunday.
MetService has issued 23 weather warnings and watches across New Zealand.
Conditions have the potential to cause “widespread disruption”, worse than those earlier this week.
Strong gusts of winds could damage trees, power lines, and unsecured structures. Road closures are also possible.
About 200mm of rain is also expected in the western South Island.
