Powercuts didn't bother me at the other house as I was able to cook and boil water on the fire...So we would always have warmth, food and hot water...New house, I wouldn't....But , we would just go down to the olds place, they have a wood fire in the lounge and a coal range on wet back in the kitchen...Warm, plenty of hot water and able to cook on the coal range....
I can only assume aucklanders wouldn't have coal ranges up there, so would be fucked without back up generators....
Down here, when the school kids go on camp, they get taught basics...Plus living in southland, they learn pretty quick on how to chop kindling and how to stack it in the fire so it draws good air and a swiss army knife isnt a tool for holding up a dairy....

Yup, we have a cooktop wood stove too. Such an advantage. A real blessing.
